It’s huge. It’s opulent. And, it’s surprisingly sporty.
Built on the same platform as Bentley’s famed Arnage sedan, the two door convertible comfortably seats four. It’s finished, like all Bentleys are – by hand, to the customer’s chosen interior specifications. In an age of least-cost mass production, the Bentley customer still gets to choose from 20 varieties of hide leather, eight styles of alloy wheels, more than 35 external finishes and at least four of the finest wood veneers. The Azure 2008 is close to 18 feet long 7 feet wide and tips the scales at more than two and a half tons. Yet, its huge triple layered soft top opens up at the touch of a button in under 30 seconds. The acceleration, at 0-60 mph in less than 6 seconds, is probably the nimblest, for a car this massive.
The engineering specifications that are standard in the Azure 2008 would make much of the competition green with envy. The six speed electronically controlled transmission with overdrive is manually interactive. The steering column is power tilted with a 3 position memory. An adaptive variable suspension provides for automatic load leveling. The four-wheel anti lock braking system incorporates advanced electronic controls for stability control and force distribution. Enhanced safety measures include rollover sensors and automatic roll bars. An array of security extras is standard – from anti-theft and monitoring devices to panic alarms, selective locking/unlocking and valet lockout. Small wonder…that a special edition of Bentley was commissioned recently for the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Queen of England.
