Khaled Hosseini is a gifted story teller and the best part of his story telling is that he is outstandingly lyrical. As the name suggests the book is stunningly breathtaking, according to a review. The story is one of love all through. Mariam, the central character is only fifteen when she got married to Rasheed thirty years his senior.  After a period of two decades a same sort of tragedy is stored for Laila who comes to stay with Mariam and Rasheed at their home. The story spins round a friendship that develops between the two women, and their friendship grow deeper as if between two sisters or between a mother and a daughter.

The Taliban rule over the whole of Afghanistan sets in and the Kabul streets are filled with bomb shots and firing from guns. There is a scenario of desperation, and fear. There is brutality all around. But it is love that prevails over all. It is love that can make a person act in ways that are unexpected. It leads them to get over the most daunting obstacles. But the end of it is sheer love that prevails. The story moves on with picturesque description of the Afghan streets and the household, with the daily chores happening. This is some beautiful story telling by Hosseini who has proved his worth in The Kite Runner, proves it again with this awe-inspiring book of indestructible love.
